Experiencing internet problems can be frustrating, technical issues can sometimes disrupt your online experience. This user guide is designed to help you quickly identify and resolve common internet problems, from cable and modem issues to Wi-Fi and connectivity challenges.
Common Internet Issues and Step-by-Step Guide
In this section, we break down the most frequent internet issues you might encounter with your HighFi Internet service and provide easy-to-follow solutions. Whether you’re dealing with slow speeds, connection drops, or hardware malfunctions, our step-by-step guide is designed to help you quickly get back online.
Cable Issues
1. Ensure Proper Cable Positioning
Ensure that the fiber optic cable is either straight or coiled in a circle to prevent damage.
2. Avoid Cable Folding
Avoid folding the fiber optic cable, as this can cause irreparable damage.
3. Handle Connectors with Care
When disconnecting the fiber optic cable, gently grasp the connectors with your fingers. Fiber optic cables are delicate, and excessive force may cause them to break.
Modem Issues
1. Verify Modem Power Status
Confirm that the modem is powered on.
2. Troubleshoot Red Blinking Light
If the modem’s third light turns red and blinks, check that the fiber optic cable is securely connected to the modem. The green connector should connect to the modem, and the blue connector should connect to the fiber wall socket. If the connection is secure but the red light continues to blink, please contact HighFi customer support for on-site assistance.
3. Address Orange Light and Payment Issues
If the modem’s fourth light turns orange, there may be a payment issue. Ensure your internet service payment is up to date, and contact customer support if your payment has been processed but the issue persists.
4. Resolve Missing Wi-Fi SSID
If the Wi-Fi SSID disappears, it might be due to accidentally pressing the WPS button, which can disable Wi-Fi. Contact customer support for help re-enabling the Wi-Fi SSID.
Internet Access Problems
Unable to access certain websites?
This could be due to the website or domain being blocked by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (SKMM).
Experiencing slow access to specific websites?
Avoid folding the fiber optic cable, as this can cause irreparable damage.aHigh traffic on the website could cause congestion, leading to slower access times.
Speed Test Issues
How to perform an internet speed test?
Before running the speed test, stop any downloads and close any programs that might be using the internet, like streaming services or file-sharing apps.
You can run the speed test over Wi-Fi, but for the most accurate results, it’s best to use the LAN cable provided during your HighFi installation and connect your computer directly to the router.
To connect with the LAN cable, just plug it into any of the LAN ports (LAN1 to LAN3) on your wireless router.
Speedtest results not showing full speed on certain servers?
HighFi’s network is optimized for peering with Telecoms’ servers. Performance may vary with other servers. Check out our How to Accurately Test Your Internet Speed article for more.
Wi-Fi Issues
Experiencing intermittent Wi-Fi connections or slow internet speeds, especially during nighttime?
This may be due to Wi-Fi interference from nearby devices, particularly in high-rise buildings where multiple Wi-Fi networks are active. Wi-Fi interference can occur when many devices are connected simultaneously.
